The 650R will definitely have the power and comfort for weekend rides and may be a little better in city traffic with it's less twitchy throttle. The MT09 issue of exhaust is so easily fixed with an aftermarket exhaust and will potentially be more fun for weekend rides with it's extra power.

I got a MT-09 SP a year ago. And to be honest it's miles better. Overall better materials and quality. More refined, and with goodies, like cruise control, quick shifter better suspension. The value of a MT-07 is great. And it's fun and torquey. MT-09 is a beast and a bit more refined. 3. MT-09 every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Yeah, the FTR is cool and all but it's got some glaring issues and is really overpriced. If you get the standard model, it's essentially a lifted Scout.
