Golf mk5 1.9 tdi. Egr valve engine management light. Wanting a little advice really. I have engine management light on and in display says emitions garage. I've had code read and it's the egr valve. Now what's better do about it. Take the egr valve off and clean?

I thought doing the EGR delete, ECU tune and intake manifold cleaning would take care of all those issues in one maintenance blitz. I'm not against leaving the EGR valve in place, especially if it doesn't cause intake issues. The assumption these intakes gummed up was the primary reason to explore the EGR delete. I'll second the mucky bit .. did mine about a month ago and it's a filthy job, I found it easier to take the whole lot off with the inlet manifold which i also cleaned and strip it on the bench .. i used oven cleaner and a jetwash to clean it all then when all back together i disabled the EGR from opperating by removing the VAC hose and plugging it,,,,, no need for a blanking plate if
